Keeping up with the Jones'

As I get older, the more I realize that we as a society, just don't seem to be happy with the simple things in life anymore. We think that we need to win the lottery to be able to have everything we need in life AND more, thus leaving us with a life full of happiness. Those of us from the younger generation put a lot of unnecessary stresses on ourselves. Many of us compare our lives with that of our family, close friends and neighbours. If they are decorating their house or traveling and we are not, we feel that that we should be. Automatically we believe that they are doing things right and we are doing things wrong. In some cases we could in fact be doing things better but that doesn't mean that their life is any better than yours.

I'm not suggesting that vacations and lovely decorated houses are things that shouldn't be desired however, they shouldn't be things that are envied. I am a firm believer that we have to celebrate the good in life, not just ours. If our friends and family are living a life that seems to be "ideal" then be happy for them because you are not aware of the potential hard work that went into them achieving their "success."

So as an effective Life Coach, I'll leave you with the following question:
  • should your success be measured by that of your family and friends?
